This denim is unwashed and retains its original sizing, giving it a crisp, rigid feel. It will soften with wear and develop creases and fades unique to the wearer.
First Soak and Expected Shrinkage
For a more predictable fit, we recommend an initial cold soak before regular wear.
- Turn the jeans inside out and soak separately in cold water for approximately 30–45 minutes.
- Avoid excessive movement or scrubbing during the soak.
- Gently press out excess water without twisting or wringing.
- Reshape the jeans while damp and air dry in the shade.
After the first cold soak, expected shrinkage is approximately:
- Waist circumference: around 0.8 inch
- Length: approximately 0.8–1.2 inches
These figures are estimates. Hot water, machine washing and tumble drying may cause greater shrinkage, while a cold soak with minimal agitation generally results in less shrinkage.
Ongoing Care
- Wear often and wash only when needed to encourage distinctive, high-contrast fading.
- Do not allow heavy dirt, sweat or odor to build up for extended periods.
- When washing, turn the jeans inside out and use cold water with a mild detergent.
- Cold hand washing is preferred. If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle and wash separately.
- Avoid bleach, fabric softener, hot water and tumble drying.
- Air dry in the shade and keep away from prolonged direct sunlight.
Raw denim may feel stiff again after air drying. This helps the fabric hold natural creases around the lap, knees and back of the knees. It will soften again after a few wears.
