Product Description

Built from a distinctive 16oz Midnight Blue selvedge denim, this pair uses sulphur-dyed black warp yarns woven over reactive-dyed blue weft yarns to create a deep blue-black surface with unusual depth.

Unlike conventional black-over-blue denim that can appear almost completely black from the outside, the twill face of this fabric reveals fine blue tones throughout the surface, especially under natural light. The result is a dark, mineral-like color that shifts between black and deep blue depending on the light.

Cut in a slim straight fit, the jeans stay cleaner through the thigh and leg without the aggressive narrowing of a tapered fit. The denim is raw and not pre-desized, so expect approximately 1 inch of shrinkage at the waist and length after the first wash.

Size Recommendation

We offer true to size jeans, not vanity sizing. Some brands are offering vanity sizing because the industry started that many years ago. Please be aware ours are true to size.

Please take a pair of your favorite jeans, lay them flat with the waist pulled tight. Then use a flexible tape measure laid from left to right and that’s your true size. For example, if you lay the tape measure from left to right and you get 16 inches, your actual waist measurement is 32 inches (16 X 2). So please order a size 32 waist.

Wash & Care

This denim is unwashed and retains its original sizing, giving it a crisp, rigid feel. It will soften with wear and develop creases and fades unique to the wearer.

First Soak and Expected Shrinkage

For a more predictable fit, we recommend an initial cold soak before regular wear.

  • Turn the jeans inside out and soak separately in cold water for approximately 30–45 minutes.
  • Avoid excessive movement or scrubbing during the soak.
  • Gently press out excess water without twisting or wringing.
  • Reshape the jeans while damp and air dry in the shade.

After the first cold soak, expected shrinkage is approximately:

  • Waist circumference: around 0.8 inch
  • Length: approximately 0.8–1.2 inches

These figures are estimates. Hot water, machine washing and tumble drying may cause greater shrinkage, while a cold soak with minimal agitation generally results in less shrinkage.

Ongoing Care

  • Wear often and wash only when needed to encourage distinctive, high-contrast fading.
  • Do not allow heavy dirt, sweat or odor to build up for extended periods.
  • When washing, turn the jeans inside out and use cold water with a mild detergent.
  • Cold hand washing is preferred. If machine washing is necessary, use a gentle cycle and wash separately.
  • Avoid bleach, fabric softener, hot water and tumble drying.
  • Air dry in the shade and keep away from prolonged direct sunlight.

Raw denim may feel stiff again after air drying. This helps the fabric hold natural creases around the lap, knees and back of the knees. It will soften again after a few wears.

Learn More About Selvedge

How it's made: Shuttle loom vs Modern loom

  • Shuttle-woven fabric is narrower (around 30 inches), emphasizing craftsmanship; modern looms produce wide rolls (up to 70 inches), prioritizing mass production.
  • The shuttle method gives denim a unique texture and vintage character; modern weaving is smoother but lacks individuality.
  • Shuttle looms weave slowly but create tight, durable fabric; modern looms are faster but often looser in weave.

Craftsmanship in Every Stitch

  • No fraying edges — selvedge finish resists wear and tear over time. The longer you wear the jeans, the comfortable it will become.
  • No broken zippers — YKK® zippers ensure smooth, long-term function. If you have no idea what fabric is good, accessories on jeans can tell you the quality.
  • No weak seams — double stitching reinforces high-stress areas. In addition to that, it will also make your jeans look more crafted
  • No curling hems — chain stitch hems stay flat and age with character.
